I can name the characters in a story

Image
Today we read the story: "The Gingerbread Man" and talked about what characters are in the story.  We listened to the story and looked at the pictures to discover that characters are the people or things in the story that have role in the main storyline.  If there was a duck in the background, we knew that it was just a background picture, rather than an important part of the story.  In our visual journals we drew at least two characters that we remembered from the story.  Today we focused on using detail, colour and trying to label our pictures with the first letter of the character! We will be learning more about story elements, so please stay tuned! Reminders: -Return library books for tomorrow! -This Friday PM Kindergarten attends -Classes will be going outside for gym this week. - As the weather gets colder, please ensure your child is dressed properly for outdoor weather. It was amazing meeting with all of our Kindergarten families last week.  Thank you for taking the time and all the support that you provide from home.  We are so grateful to get to work with such amazing families.  Today we learned all about the number 9!  Please help me practice writing the numeral, word and representing it through pictures so that I can gain confidence and independence with all my numbers! I should be able to easily recognize my numbers and starting to get comfortable with counting independently.  Another fun and easy way to practice my numbers is to try putting objects into different groups.  For example, try making groups of 3, 5, 8 and 10 while eating cheerios :) Reminders: -Return library books for Thursday -This Friday PM Kindergarten attends -Classes will be going outside for gym this week. - As the weather gets colder, please ensure your child is dressed properly for outdoor weather. After reading the story, we talked about our new Kindergarten Learning Rubric.  This rubric will help us stay on track in our learning and see how we are growing this year.  We talked about how this rubric can help us to learn, grow and set goals in all areas of Kindergarten!  Please ask me all about it! If I have dice at home, I can use this math tool to help me subitize. Subitize is being able to recognize  an arrangement of dots such as on a dice without having to count each dot. For example when I roll a 4 I know automatically it is 4 instead of counting with my fingers 1,2,3,4.  Reminders: -No School from Nov. 9th - 14th -Service Club Students  are asked to wear their uniforms tomorrow Wednesday November 8 as we will be observing Remembrance Day tomorrow.  Veterans   Food   Bank The Veterans   Food   Bank of Calgary is a service provided by CALGARY VETERANS SERVICES SOCIETY, founded in August 2018, to serve   food   security and other resource needs of veterans from Calgary and surrounding area. I can share what makes me super!

Image
Today we had a discussion about how we are all unique and special. We all have special superpowers! Some of us were born with these and some of us learn new powers as we grow older. We read a book called "A Day With No Words." and learned about a special boy who does not speak but communicates through his tablet. He has autism. We talked about how there are many different learners in our class too and it is important to have an understanding that all brains are different and work differently. We drew in our visual journals what one of our super powers are. Some ideas were: being kind, gymnastics, helping my mom when she is sad, cleaning up my toys. Ask me to share with you what I drew today.  Reminders: -PM kindergarten attends this Friday -We ask that parents refrain from using the parking lot for pick up and drops offs, as it is a safety concern as students are arriving and being dismissed in that area.  There are many people in the area and may not be visible. Today we learned about the number 5.  We continued to practice representing this number through picture, numeral and 5 frame.  For some extra practice, you can see what other fun ways you can show 5 with your family!  Please continue practice writing the numbers 0-5 with me at home to build confidence and fluency with this skill! We got an exciting new centre today!  It is a veterinarian clinic where we can pretend to take care of sick and hurting animals.  We are very excited to play here! -If you ordered school pictures, they will be coming home in the next few days.  -Don't forget that tomorrow is library - please bring your book back in order to take out a new one!
