Today we read a story about Pyjama day!  After the story, we designed our own PJ's  - I brought my design home to share with you! It was the last day for AM Kindergarten today - we hope you all have a safe and restful break.   Pyjama Day is TOMORROW -  PM KINDERGARTEN: Friday Dec 22  - PJ Day! Today we learned all about the circle.  We did a shape hunt around the room to see if we could find circles in our every day environment.  What circles can you find at home!? In our visual journals we drew circles and turned them into every day objects like: Pizzas, clocks and plates!  Please ask me what pictures I drew in my journal. Today both AM and PM Kindergarten classes performed their Winter Concerts.  Everyone did such an amazing job.  We are so proud of all the hard work that all the MC's and students put into practicing! We learned that patterns repeat. They can be colours that repeat, a repeating action or even sound. We created our own patterns on a candy cane today. We then practiced our cutting skills and cut them out and glued them in my journal.  Today we learned about the next story element: Setting.  The setting is where the story takes place.  We read another story about the Gingerbread man and talked about where the story might take place.  In our visual journals, we drew and labeled pictures of the setting of the story! Today we had buddies with the grade fours!  It was a an extra special time because we made holiday cards for care homes in our community.  My buddy helped me write a special message and we worked together to decorate the card.  We hope that our cards will bring some holiday cheer and brighten a senior's day :) Here is a sample of our cards.  Please ask me about my card! We made little gift bags today for our special family gift today. We practiced drawing different shapes. Ask me to tell you about the winter concerts we watched yesterday and today for the grades 1-5.  Today we worked on a special art project for our families for the holidays. We want it to be a surprise! We will be wrapping them and bringing them home next week and cannot wait to share it with you.  We contiue to work on reviewing our 8 letters we have been working on. Please continue to practice them at home with me. We are beginning to segment and blend sounds in words using the letters we know. At this time in kindergarten, we are working on segmenting and blending three letter words that have a consonant, vowel and consonant. We are learning to read words like: pit, sit, sat, nap, tip, pip, pin, pat, pan and more.  Reminders:   - AM kindergarten attends this Friday. We are learning about all the different shapes. Today we took a closer look at a square. We realized that squares are everywhere. I can find squares at home and all around me. Ask me to draw a square in the air. We learned that it has 4 sides and 4 corners. In our visual journals, we drew 3 squares and turned them into something else. We have been learning about the winter season as we say goodbye to fall and hello to winter in the next couple of weeks. We each drew something to add to our collaborative winter scene.  I have an invitation in my backpack with all of the important details of our winter concert. I am practicing writing my name independently and being able to copy environmental print (copying from the board). If you are having difficulties reading my name and what I wrote on the invitation, please help me practice writing at home by copying letters and words. We continue to learn about holding our pencils and crayons with the proper grip and forming our letters and numbers correctly by always starting at the top. We have been busy practicing our songs and cannot wait to perform them for you and the rest of the school. Today we had a chance to show our understanding of all the numbers.  We wrote the numbers on the top and represented the number in the box underneath!  At this point in the year, I should be getting comfortable with writing and showing the numbers 1 - 10 through pictures.  Please help me review the numbers that I do not know yet, so that I can build confidence and indepedence!
