I can make a card with my buddy - PM Kindergarten

Today we had buddies with the grade fours!  It was a an extra special time because we made holiday cards for care homes in our community.  My buddy helped me write a special message and we worked together to decorate the card with markers and stickers.  We hope that our cards will bring some holiday cheer and brighten a senior's day :)

Reminders: 

-We are collecting donations for the Mustard Seed - please see below for specific items being collected.  Donations will be collected until Dec. 15th

Students in grade 5 have been learning about The Mustard Seed, whose vision is to eliminate homelessness and reduce poverty in Calgary. The grade 5 students and staff have decided to take on a Community Project to help support people who are experiencing homelessness and/or poverty in our city.

Students have been exploring the question, “Can one person make a difference?” Students think each and everyone of us at Copperfield can make a difference. Whether it be by helping with donations for The Mustard Seed or by thinking about ways to help others. A smile or extending a simple “Hello” to someone having a challenging day can make a huge difference. 

You can chose to donate to our important community project by sending in individual items. Items include urgently needed items, hygiene items, and clothing items. Here is a list of items to donate.

Urgent Needed Items

blankets, shampoo, body wash, lotion, deodorant, razors

Hygiene Items

conditioner (travel size), toothpaste (travel size), tissues (travel size), lip balm, hair brushes, sleep masks, ear plugs, nail clippers, foot powder

Clothing

toques, gloves, men’s small size clothing (jogging pants, t-shirts, sweatshirts, socks)

Other Items

Backpacks


If you are able to, we ask you to bring in your donations by December 15th, to allow for the grade 5 students to organize and send in the donations. Donation bins will be at the front of the school.

Grade 5 Students and Staff

- There is NO SCHOOL Dec. 8th 

- As the weather gets colder, please ensure your child is dressed properly for outdoor weather. This includes snow pants, jacket, toques, mittens/gloves. We have recess every Tuesday and go outside to the playground unless it is -20 below. 

- Please have an extra change of clothes in a ziplock bag in your child's backpack in case of any accidents and or excessive mud or snow.  

Pyjama Day
- AM KINDERGARTEN: Thursday Dec 21. -PJ Day! (last day before winter break for AM class)

- PM KINDERGARTEN: Friday Dec 22 - PJ Day! (last day before winter break for PM class) 
Wear your pyjamas to school. No stuffies please.

Kindergarten Winter Celebration Performances

Kindergarten students will be having mini concerts during the day on Wednesday, Dec. 20

·         The morning classes will perform in the gym at 10:30am

·         The afternoon classes will perform at 2:15pm. 

·         Families are welcome to attend with audience seating beginning at 10:15am and 2:00pm

Our First Day

  Hello families and welcome to our kindergarten blog! We will be updating this blog daily with what we have been working on and important information and updates about our class. Please check it regularly as this is our main form of communication with you. This will also help connect you with what is happening at school so you can guide those conversations with your child at home and ask them "tell me more about......". We had a wonderful first staggered entry day yesterday. Your children were absolutely wonderful and they did so great! Thank you for your help in prepping them for this milestone. Ask your child to share with you some of the things they learned about the kindergarten teachers. We worked on practicing printing our name and drawing a picture of us on the first day of school.  We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday September 5 during our regular kindergarten hours. I can learn about the Green Zone

Today we learned that we have feelings and that we can feel different ones throughout the day. We learned about the different feelings zones. We call it "The Zones of Regulation". We focused on what it means to be in the green zone and talked about what puts us in this zone. We learned that this is an important zone to be in, especially at school because this is the zone that helps us be ready for learning. Ask me to share with you what puts me in the green zone. Some strategies that help us get into the green zone might be reading a book, getting a hug, playing with someone etc. In the next couple of weeks, we will be talking about each of the different zones to help us regulate our emotions. I can practice composing 10 through a game

We are continuing to work on gaining fluency and independence when naming the number pairs of 10.  Today we played "Mystery Number 10" to practice this skill.  One friend would hide a certain number of blocks from 10 behind their back, and the partner would quickly guess how many they were hiding, based off of the number of blocks remaining on the table.  This games helps me practice subitizing, adding, subtracting and recalling number pairs of 10 quickly in my head!   Reminders: -AM Kindergarten attends on Friday -Please return library books for Thursday book exchange! -Books that were borrowed from the Seton library from our field trip can be returned to the school by the end of the school year. If it is after, you can return them at any Calgary Public Library in the city to avoid any late fees.
